How do YOU monitor your kids online activity?
I just asked a privacy question about the electronic rights of my middle school kid and surprisingly received almost unanimous affirmation that monitoring kids activity through high school is the norm. I am an IT professional and know how to keep track of the activity of my children and prevent activity where necessary. The parents of my kids friends don't. I am appalled at the ignorance of some very educated parents in regard to monitoring or how to monitor their kids online activity. I am very interested in your answers to this.What measures do you have in place to monitor your kids online activity? Could your kid get past your security if they wanted? Lastly, are any of you getting flack from your kid because you're doing this?I don't secretly monitor online activity. My kids are totally aware that I am viewing EVERYTHING. Note that were talking about a middle schooler here.

Does anyone hear those "I monitor my kids online" stories and thank GOD they are too old to be monitored?
I know it's for the kids protection, but I find it creepy and it reminds me of 1984.My parents never really monitored, and I was very glad for it. I can't imagine how horrible id feel if I couldn't send any emails without someone reading them.I just find it creepy I would HATE someone looking at what I do. Sooo glad im eighteen Double good, eh?I never said it is bad, i just said im glad im too old for it LOL.
Do you think when parents post inappropriate pics and videos of their kids online it ceases being "nobody's"?

Teachers posting pictures of their kids online?
I was looking at my friend's blog, and saw a link to a blog by her son's kindergarten teacher. This teacher has set up a public blog to share information with the parents of her students. She has some posts about different class assignments and things they are working on, but she also has pictures of a lot of her students. Most are of the group of them doing some activity, but one was a " Happy Birthday" recognition for one little girl, complete with her name and a great picture of her in her birthday crown.Do parents really not mind people posting pictures of their children online like that, or am I just weird for thinking that it's not a great idea?

Where is a SAFE place for kids to chat and meet other kids online?
My son plays some games online and has been meeting some people and I don't let him chat with them because they are not sites based solely for kids. I know sometimes predators can sign up for kids sites as well, but I would like to find a place I can feel a little more comfortable with him talking to people. My son is 11 and he really wants to chat and meet other kids. It doesn't have to be a game site, just something based on kids. Any suggestions?There seems to be a misunderstanding. I am not asking for parenting advice I didn't ask whether he should stay inside or go outside. What I did ask was, Where he can go ONLINE to interact with other kids. If you cannot help with that, I respectfully ask you to leave your other advice with you. I am aware of the dangers and I am aware of his social needs in real life as well. I am unsure why anyone would assume I wasn't aware of those things already. It is very presumptive and rude. I also teach him manners and proper etiquette, which it looks as though some people around here could use.Thank you to those who have actually tried to help in regards to my actual question. Can someone post pictures of your kids online without your permission?
my sisters boyfriends ex girlftiend and her sister are posting pictures of my nephews one of who is not his biological son on their myspace asking people if they look like him and saying he's not the father. they are always causing problems. sending rude emails texts and making rude phone calls. they are not letting her boyfriend see his son who he has with one of the girls because he will not take the daughter who is not biologically his.i think this is exploiting them i will show you what they are saying just go here viewmorepics.myspace.com index.cf viewmorepics.myspace.com index.cf what can we do about this? how would you feel if someone did this to your childthanks.this is just so silly. this is so outrageous. they are having a custody dispute with my sisters bf but they have no right to post mean things under pictures. it's one thing to take the pictures and post them and another to actually post horrible things under them
