What are some veggies, fruits, or herbs I can grow in a medium planter box?
The box is about 30" long by 6" long. It's about 5 inches deep. We have more than one planter, but this is for mostly for things we can use in cooking and feed to our rabbits. We're starting a larger garden in our back yard, and this would be on our porch. Also, what is the best way to keep things like bees, beetles, STINK BUGS , and ants way without pesticide type chemicals. This will be our first gardening we'll be doing, but we're being much more frugal and I thought this would be a nice lesson for my younger brother. A variety of options would be nice as well. Thanks Oh, also, when is a good time to start planting. It's been rainy and I think my friend's mom said something about waiting after Easter because PA is going to get a frost or something.
First Time Herb Grower. Questions about soil for particular herbs?
So, I'm completely new to gardening. Everything I've tried in the past has died, probably due to my lack of resources. It's now getting warm out and I decided to give it another shot. I bought 2 rosemary, sweet mint, sweet basil, greek oregano, and italian flat leafed parsley. All of these are already plants didn't want to try starting from seeds. The only one that is decently large is the sweet basil roughly 12in tall . I live in a second floor apartment with a balcony that gets a ton of sun. So, I will be planting all of these in pots. I've already transplanted my rosemary plants my favorite . They are around 6in tall each. They're in a pretty large plastic pot with lots of drainage holes. For their soil, I used 3 parts miracle grow cactus soil to 1 parts pearlite. Will this work well? And do I need to add a slow release fertilizer? As for the mint, basil, oregano, and parsley, they where impulse buys and I do not really know much about what kind of soil composition they require. I know how moist etc the soil needs to be, how much sun they need, and how often to harvest lots of googling . But I was wondering if I could possibly get some more personalized info from some of you more experienced growers. What brand of soil works best? What do I need to mix in? What percentages of each like how I did 3pts cacts soil to 1pts pearlite . I live in Alabama in zone 8b. I would greatly appreciate any advice, and will clarify details if needed.

How to grow Onions in Container and herbs?
I fianlly have some space to grow a container garden. I have 10 Tomato plants growing, two pepper plants and a strawberry plant. I am wanting to grow some Onions and I have an Aerogarden that came with a herb seed starter kit. I was wondeing, how far apart should I put the onions. I am making some makeshift pots out of those cheap clear plastic drawers you can get at Walmart, the dresser part is broken, that I have on hand. I'm gonna line it with a black trash bag since it is clear and drill holes in the bottom. The plastic drawers are about 10 inches deep and 24x16 wide. How many onions could I grow in 1 of these? I haven't bought my onions yet, not sure what kind is best but most likely I am going to buy sets. Also, I have the Aerogarden herb thing and it has no instructions. I was just wondering how much space I should give each plant when I plant them in pots. It has 6 pods for each kind of herb and It doesn't say what each one is. Do you think I could just get one 3 gallon pot for each herb and plant all 6 pods in each one? Or would that be too much? I think It has dill, 2 kinds of basil, cilantro, and two other kinds of herbs.

Can I put out my herbs in direct sunlight or will they dry out?
I've been growing them for a while and I notice they always lean and point toward the sun basil, thyme, and oregano when I put them by the window. I don't have much of a green thumb though so I'm not sure if I could put them outside. It's probably not necessary though since they're doing very well just by the window. Also, my chives have been getting droopy. They were nice and tall yesterday but today some are hanging very low. I water them properly, so may it just have been lack of sunlight today?
I am looking to try to grow some herbs I have looked at the ones in garden centres?

Help my herb seedlings?
I planted a bunch of different herbs from seeds in little peat moss pots. I filled them with potting soil, put in the seeds, and put each small pot on a large tray and expose it to light south facing window all day. I've been watering regularly so the soil never gets too dry. They all sprouted, but now I don't know what to do it seems like some of the small shoots are dying no matter what I do. They seem to just shrivel up from the base of the plant where the stem meets the soil . What can I do? Should I be bringing them outside by now? The plants look very fragile still. They've only been growing for a couple of weeks. Thanks
