How do raw diets for dogs work?
How do you know what to feed them and how much? I have a lab mix with a lot of allergies so I have to be careful what I feed him. I was feeding him taste of the wild until the recall. I can't find any grain free foods around the same price so I was thinking about feeding him BARF. I read that you have to be careful and give your dog proper amounts of everything or it'll cause problems. He already is fed bones, we give them about once a week.Letting him choose the amount of chicken wings he wants would be catastrophic. He would eat hundreds of them if he could P He's a pig.

What are good diets for dogs?
My dog is very over weight and eats a lot. We have 3 other dogs and don't know how to her on a diet without putting the other dogs on the diet as well I need some good ideas for the diets, and fast

Are there any stores that sell packaged raw food diets for dogs?
I know all the websites that you can buy from and have it shipped to you, but I'd like to actually go out and buy it myself. I was wondering if anyone knows if there are places that supply it?

Low protein diets for dogs with renal desease?
Im doing project on the importance of diets in health of a dog, whilst I know thats is is outdated,im looking for a reference preferablly scientific were the promoted this low protein diet model for dogs with kidney failure.sorry I probably could of phrased that better.Im aware about it being controvesional and no scientific proof etc,My whole project is absed on this argument.Im looking for any links source were they DO RECOMMEND USE OF PROTEIN IN DIET FOR DOGS WITH KINDNEY FAILURE,im just having difficulty finding a source that does say this even though it was widely accepted and still is to this day. Thanks

What do you think about the Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diet for dogs.?
It sounds tastier and better than traditional dog food which stinks dried and wet although expensive. If dried canned is better, why don't humans eat it? My dog has no health issues but you are what you eat and eating is a huge part of a dogs life.

Does the chicken & rice diet for dogs cause yellow stools?
I have a 10 week old puppy who has been on the chicken & rice diet, as well as on antibiotics. Initially he was having solid poops in the morning with diarrhoea in the evening. Now he's going a bit more regularly though his stools are soft and part yellow. Could the chicken & rice be causing the colour change?I specifically want to know if anyone else has experienced this when their dog puppy has been on chicken & rice. I have done an internet search & it seems like some dogs get yellow stools, though it's not conclusive. Many thanks.

Raw diet for dogs feeding guide question!?
I have been reading up on raw feeding for dogs.I have a Toy Poodle & Miniature Schnauzer. The recommended 'guidelines' for them is 100 & 180 grams respectively. But yet it is advised to give an entire carcass if possible like the whole rabbit fish chicken etc...which is contradictory to me..Do i feed once or twice a day? Some insists only sick dogs eats twice daily?Obviously i will observe their weight gain & increase or reduce in time to come. Some sites said DO NOT feed chicken necks, legs & wings..some insist to.& what is not too big a bone yet not too small???Can i let them share a single piece of RMB? Do i just leave it out for them to eat & store the remaining in the fridge? As alot of them say not to cut it up.Am so confused Thanks everyone for your input I'm also thinking of providing them with some of Dr. B's BARF RAW Patty's on random days as i strong believe in variety in feeding... A little Vegetable wouldn't do harm to my dogs right?Thank you

Questions about Raw diet for dogs?
I have heard very good things about the benefits of feeding my dogs Raw diet and am considering switching from Wellness to Raw.My questions is stuff like salmonella and other bacteria in Raw meat,How likely is it for them to get sick or even choke on bones? How much would you give a small dog and would I just give him like a chicken leg?I have done some research and these are my only worries,so I was hoping someone here knows more. ThanksHe does fine on the wellness, the reason for me wanting to switch is what i have been reading mainly about the dental benefits,He hates having his teeth brushed and makes it nearly impossible to get them clean.

Organ question for raw diet for dogs?
Hi i have a question about the organs i only have 3 organs available where i live liver, gizzards and heart no kidney unfortunately and they don't even sell chicken leg quarters to get them from so the 80 % meat 10 %bone 10 % organs are for per day so am i supposed to feed 5 %liver and 5 % gizzards or heart everyday? and if i miss a few days like for example 5 does this mean i have to add up all the liver and gizzards or heart i was supposed to feed for the 5 days and give it all on one day? I am very confused about this XDAny help would be very appreciated Thank you

Is a "vegetarian" diet for dogs actually healthy?
That's what we're learning in my Small Animal Care class, and it just doesn't seem right. Where in the wild do dogs eat like vegetarians? Wouldn't it be much healthier for them to eat food made for dogs eat a raw diet?I'd like to prove my teacher wrong are there any websites I can print off and show her that will prove my point and have her retract the statements she made about vegetarian diets for dogs being completely healthy?

Long Term Bland Diet for Dog...?
My father and I are having a big disagreement. A few months ago, our GSD was put on a bland diet because of bowel problems. After his stool sample was sent out and the results came in, we found out he had Giardia, which we put him on medicine for and has since cleared. Now the problem is that my dad wants to keep him partially on the bland diet for life. He is barely 6 months old and still a puppy. He wants the dog to eat half bland and half regular food. His argument is that freshly cooked rice and meat without ANYTHING else is human grade food and much better than " crusty old kibbles" . The kibbles we feed him are Nutro brand, which I researched and found is a very reputable dog food company with holistic, natural, and overall top quality food. He was on Blue Buffalo food before too, but that food was too " rich" and was causing him more stomach issuse, so we switched to Nutro Limited Ingredient food before the Giardia hit.My problem with this is that feeding him 50 % rice and meat and 50 % regular food is that the rice and meat are plain. That is the point of the " bland" diet. There are barely any vitamins, minerals, nutrients etc that are GOOD for a healthy puppy to grow up with. Ever since we put him on the bland diet, he hasn't grown at all The way I see it, if we give him 50 % bland food, he is only getting 50 % of the vitamins and good stuff from the SCIENTIFICALLY formulated Nutro food that contains everything he needs to grow up happy and healthy. My dad is stubborn and doesn't buy this, but it makes sense to me.So who is right? Can you keep a dog on a partial bland diet for his life without consequences? I think doing so will prevent him from getting enough vitamins and nutrients. My dad says the bland food is " fresh" and is therefore better for him, and he would feed him ONLY bland food if he could. Please help.Thank you Also, if you answer and have any sort of specific credentials relating to dogs you're a vet, vet tech, board dogs, have had dogs for a long time, are a nutritionist even for humans please let me know, so I can show him that it's not just some guy on the internet saying what to do

How often to feed different protein in the raw diet for dogs?
Right now i am feeding all chicken as my dog has just started the raw diet but i need to know how often am i supposed to feed the other proteins? I can only have 3 proteins fish beef and chicken as my dog is allergic to lamb So what is good to feed? like 4 times a week beef and 2 times a chicken and once a week fish meal?i would be feeding 10 % chicken bone on the days i feed beef too because that is the only source of bone i have so is it just better to give beef and chicken everyday? or some days just chicken?any advice would be greatly appreciatedthank you

Raw diet for dogs what to ask butcher for?
I am interested in feeding my dogs a raw diet and thought it would be a good idea to have a list for the butcher of the different animal parts, meats with bone and organs that my dogs can eat. Only problem is I don't know what to put on the list. I've searched online but I can't find specifics on the subject. Any suggestion?
