The questions you are asking are very general and need a professional to answer them. You asked about the insurance cost. You should ask an insurance company that handles business accounts of this type. There are many things that can happen in this type of cleaning business. For example: what does it cost to cover your business if for example you or an employee moves a vase on a table to clean the table and drops the vase worth $2,500! That's a big difference than if it's a $25 vase! See how complicated this can get. The insurance manager would ask all kinds of questions about employees, your type of services, the equipment you use, etc. It will likely depend on if other employees are involved and the type of commercial businesses you service if you have to be bonded. You would have to know what area of service your license covers. You should have an idea of what advertising will cost and how will you advertise your business. Do you have a business card designed already. The best way to start is with a professional to ask the the insurance type questions. They've likely done it before for others and know the correct questions to ask. It's bad enough when accidents happen, and if you're in a business long enough, accidents will happen, so you have to make sure you have your butt covered in case something happens. Good luck with your business venture! |

Hi, Tia! Yes, it can be confusing and these are great questions. As the other poster said, getting liability insurance is a must to protect yourself against claims of damage and theft. The price varies a lot from company to company, so call as many insurance agencies as you can and get quotes. Also, ask them about bonds, etc. Start with the lowest amount you can. You can increase later. You may not need to get a license, at least in the beginning. Call your local government clerk's office and ask what is required. If it is not required, wait. Registering your name and other licenses are usually needed to open a business bank account and so the government can tax you. So, wait if you can. I have tons more tips and resources for you on my Squidoo lens about starting a cleaning business--the link is in my profile. I hope this helps you! |
